Vortrag

Prof. Dr. Frieder Nake

In his lecture, mathematician, computer scientist and computer artist Frieder Nake will contrast the two ways of thinking - the aesthetic and the mathematical - and show how the gap between the two, which seemed insurmountable a few decades ago, can be bridged today.

Frieder Nake has been Professor of Graphic Data Processing and Interactive Systems at the University of Bremen since 1972 and is currently also Visiting Professor of Hypermedia Design at the Hochschule für Künste Bremen. Nake has published numerous scientific writings and has also contributed significantly to the development of computer art - as one of the pioneers in this field, he produced algorithmic graphics as early as 1965. His experiments on the fundamental principles of the digital world, which increasingly determines our lives, continue to this day in his interactive works.

This evening will be moderated by art historian Mona Schieren from Bremen.

With the lecture by Frieder Nake, the Edith Russ House for Media Art continues the series of talks started in the fall of 2006 entitled "Bilderwelten - Wissenswelten. Art and Science in Dialogue," which is devoted to the question of how the worlds of images and knowledge of art and science mutually influence each other and how a coexistence of art and science can look. Frieder Nake is the third speaker in the series, which will continue with speakers from different fields, after the Austrian media artist Christa Sommerer and the director of the ZKM - Center for Art and Media in Karlsruhe.

The lecture will take place as part of the lecture series "Bilderwelten - Wissenswelten. Art and Science in Dialog".
