Participation in the project "Humans at War" by Harrell Fletcher May 10 - 31, 2010, dates (approx. 2 hours) by appointment!
Humans at War is an interdisciplinary project developed by American artist Harrell Fletcher in 2005 during a fellowship residency at the University of Wisconsin. Against the backdrop of the war in Iraq, he felt compelled to continue working on the theme of war, following a work on the Vietnam War.

The project is based on having a group of young people engage in an exchange with someone who has personal experience of war, displacement, or a similar situation. So we are looking for people who have experienced war or flight and are willing to tell about it. We are also looking for groups (elementary school to student age) who are willing to draw from these narratives. Talking and drawing situations can take place in different places. They will be prepared and supported by the pedagogy of the Edith Russ House; e.g. translation is also possible by arrangement.
Procedure: The person with experiences of war or flight is asked to describe a specific situation he or she has experienced, whether dramatic or banal. Afterwards, the younger listeners will make drawings. This can lead to a conversation about what they have heard or the drawings between the people reporting and the people drawing.
The drawings and the stories will be shown in the exhibition "MyWAR" at the Edith Russ House for Media Art in Oldenburg (June 9 - August 25, 2010). The drawings will be returned to the authors after the exhibition. Everyone who contributes to this project can (but does not have to) be mentioned by name in the exhibition!
Time frame: The meetings should take place in May 2010, at least 90 - 120 minutes are necessary for describing and drawing the situation(s). There are no costs for the participants.
