Oh!m1gas: biomemitic stridulation environment / The Moment

The exhibition presents the 2013 prizewinners of the Edith-Russ-Haus Award for Emerging Media Artists of the Sparda Bank: Kuai Shen with his work Oh!m1gas: biomimetic stridulation environment, and the group ss-io (Hyun Ju Song and Mi Lyoung Bae) with The Moment.

In his space and sound installation, Kuai Shen (Ecuador, lives and works in Cologne) examines the behavior of leaf-cutting ants, using sounds and images to convey the collective effort of the ants as compared with the individualistic social model of human beings.

The audiovisual installation by ss-io (Korea, the artists live and work in Berlin and Seoul) deconstructs legible characters and generates an abstract ballet of letters, whose sound level transfers their movement into the surrounding space and thus includes the viewer.

The new Edith-Russ-Haus Award for Emerging Media Artists of the Sparda Bank acknowledges the work of young media artists from throughout the world and promotes their continued careers through the awarding of prize money and an exhibition of their works.
