Internationaler Museumstag: Eddo Stern - Darkgame
Eddo Star
"DarkGame" - Interactive computer game
Free admission.
On the occasion of International Museum Day, the Edith Russ House of Media Art invites visitors on May 17 and 18 to experience their senses in a new way through the interactive computer game DarkGame by Eddo Stern.
DarkGame is a computer game developed by the artist in which players are deprived of their senses. Each of the two players of DarkGame will wear a specially designed accessory. By means of a headset, the player will receive additional sensory information when, for example, the sense of sight is blocked out by eliminating the visual information on the screen. By taking advantage of the sensory deprivation experience, players can experience how a disadvantage can become an advantage in the game's various environments. Try it out.
At a time when the entertainment industry is trying to offer comprehensive sensory experiences, Stern's DarkGame critically examines perceptions and media experiences by sharpening our senses through deprivation and drawing attention to deprivations that receive little attention in our society.
Israeli artist Eddo Stern developed DarkGame in 2007 as part of his fellowship residency at the Edith Russ House for Media Art. The fellowship program is made possible by the Foundation of Lower Saxony.
